The brand JUJA
JUJA is the first Dutch brand that has succeeded in making high quality UV protective swimwear and accessories from recycled PET bottles. In addition to blocking harmful UV rays which protects (children's) skin, JUJA's innovative UV swimwear stands for sustainability.
A brand with a mission
JUJA is a brand with a mission. JUJA was founded in 2020 by Jan Willem van der Sterre from Rotterdam, and originated from his personal story. He lost his father to skin cancer and that triggered him to create awareness about UV protection and responsible sun behavior. JUJA wants to make sure that all children are protected and can enjoy the sun.
JUJA sustainable: Message with a bottle
JUJA attaches great importance to sustainability. Not only by using recycled PET bottles as raw material for the UPF50+ swimwear, but also almost all other choices (e.g. regarding other materials, transport and delivery) have been made primarily from a sustainability perspective. In addition to sustainability, a lot of attention is paid to the functionality of the designs, the prints and the quality of the fabrics.
The JUJA collection
The first JUJA collection consists of various UV protective items suitable for babies and children aged 0 to 16 years. JUJA focuses mainly on parents, caretakers and grandparents.
JUJA UV protective swimwear:
- Protects against skin aging, sunburn and skin diseases.
- Blocks out 98% of UV rays.
- Protects by a factor of 50+ where 'normal' clothing offers a maximum factor of 15.
- Is fully breathable, fast drying, waterproof and does not rub or irritate.
Clothing and applying sunscreen
Exposure to UVA radiation causes skin aging and UVB radiation causes the skin to burn. In contrast to many sun creams, UV clothing protects against both forms of UV radiation. The best way to arm yourself against 'the sun' is to wear UV protective clothing supplemented by applying sunscreen to the uncovered areas. Clothing and applying sunscreen is the motto when it comes to optimal protection against UV rays. This motto is endorsed by, among others, Skin cancer foundations (https://www.skincancer.org/), The American Melanoma Foundation (https://melanomafoundation.org/melanoma-prevention) and the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Dermatologie (Dutch Association for Dermatology).
Certification and ‘approved by’
The fabrics and materials have passed the toughest UV tests and received the highest possible certification from Australia (Arpansa) and the United States (Melanoma International Foundation). The UPF50+ protection factor remains fully intact after both frequent wear and washing. The materials have been produced circularly and have received the CE mark.
